1971 Honda CT70 Gray Cable Restoration

This black throttle cable is available from your local Honda dealer under part # 17910-098-673. You can also get a gray repro for $14.95. This project is more less to show you how to get them to all match!
Only problem is it's only available in black.

From www.Ecklers.com is a vinyl paint used for dying (painting) insides of car interiors. It is recommended for plastic and hard rubber. The correct color for our Honda trail cables is 1965 Silver, 12 3/4 oz. spray can. Part number A1938E. Cost is $13.95.
Update
One of our customers Gary has just informed us he went to Pep Boys and found a vinyl paint for $4.99 a can that does the same job. The color is 421 Silver Smoke Metallic.

I saw your tip on painting black cable with the grey vinyl paint. That
inspired me to find a local source for paint to paint my new black throttle
cable for my 72 HK1. I found some plasti-kote brand Vinyl Paint at Pep Boys
Auto store that matched very well. It also dried in about an hour. The color
is 421 Silver Smoke Metallic and the price is $4.99 a can. I just thought
this could be an alternative for anyone wanting to paint their cables.

Mask off the chrome ends and wipe down the entire black area of the cable with some lacquer thinner. Put about three light coats of vinyl die on the cables until it's gray in color.

This works especially well for the 1971 CT70H black clutch cable that is the only one available.

	This is the finished product ready to install.

	We let dry for only about an hour before re-assembly and had no problem with the paint coming off. This new cable increased the horsepower by 30%. The old cable was gray and original, but ugly. The new cable is nice and tight and feels like new again. This throttle cable is the same for Honda mini Trail 50 as Ct70.
